There are a number of ways to attach a stainless steel earth tab onto a stainless steel wire to make a flange bond, there is a bolted connection, a riveted connection and an arc welded connection. The bolted and riveted connections both risk the connection coming loose, although the bolted connection can be tightened during on site maintenance.
Arc welding provides a secure attachment but only joins the edges of the compactor on the end of the wire, whereas spot welding provides a weld through the center of the compactor.
Further research needs to be done on the electrical and mechanical performance of the spot weld and increasing the area of the spot weld. This is an example of the continuous reseearch and development carried out by Tranect Ltd
